The Hawaiian goose

Today is endangered species day, a day that is set aside to raise awareness of animals at risk of going extinct. So it seemed appropriate today to share photographs of the Hawaiian Goose.

This is a very rare breed of goose which is thought to have descended from the Canada goose. They have a beautiful plumage with an unusual patterns down their necks.

At the WWT they have a breeding programme,  which allows us to see these wonderful birds in captivity.
