National Insect Week

This week in the UK it is National Insect Week, so you can probably guess what is coming up today! Yep – it gives me an excuse to share some bugs and beasties which I have photographed over recent years!

This week was set up to get people to learn more about insects and the important role they play in the environment.

So the first insect from the photo archive is one of natures more beautiful creatures, the ladybird. Although very pretty in this form the lady bird does go through some not so attractive stages to get here.

This particular ladybird is the ten spotted variety and can be seen enjoying a greenfly for lunch! The usual thing about this ladybird is that they don’t alway have ten spots despite their name. This species can have any number of spots up to 15.
