Amazing top 5 win for a dark and surreal photograph
You may have seen this dark and surreal photograph being shared last week. It was one I created as part of my inspired by music series. The image I speak of is “Held the world in your arms”. Today I am thrilled to share that it was shortlisted by The Photography Academy in their monthly critique.

You may also recall that I regularly enter my images in for critique from an industry specialist each month. I find this process really rewarding, as it can validate my art when it is going well. Also, it can point me in the right direction when I am not quite getting things right.
So in December I entered “Held the world in your arms”. It is very different from the usual images submitted for critique. Many of the images entered are your more traditional portraits and landscapes. However, the judging and critique look at technique, storytelling, and post-production among other factors. This enables them to compare these different genres of photography.

I was completely blown away by the critique of this image. I always go into these webinars waiting to get more areas to improve than not. However, this month I got a glowing review. He was impressed with the surreal storytelling and complimented my photoshop skills. This is amazing validation for me when I only really started this style of photography at the beginning of 2019.
To top it off I also received two prints of my image from Loxley colour who sponsor the critique. It is fantastic to see this image come to life in print!
