Image short-listed in beat the January Blues competition.
Throughout January Vanguard ran a photo competition. The theme was to submit any image captured during January in order to beat the January Blues!
January Blues
Vanguard started running these competitions during the lockdown. The theme then was to “beat the boredom”. I was lucky enough to be shortlisted a few times but never ended up in the top slot for a prize.
I created a number of images in January and was allowed to submit 5 to be considered for the competition. In the end, these are the images I selected:

Fortunately, my little rubber ducky got selected to be in the top ten images. The idea of this image was to use complementary colours and try to include the Pantone colour of the year “Very Peri”. So I started with a complimentary colour to the purple which was yellow. This gave me the idea of using a toy duck. To ensure that the colours all matched I added a digital background to the image.
This shortlist of 10 images was then put out for the public vote.
January Blues Competition results
It was a tense couple of days while the people of Facebook got to vote on their favourite image. By the end of the week, I could see I had successfully made a place on the runner up list. This was very exciting! It has been a while since one of my images has been placed in a competition.
