Pondering Palermo
You may have seen some of my previous posts where I shared my excitement about visiting Mount Etna earlier this year. Today I am sharing my thoughts on the capital of Sicily, today I am pondering Palermo!
The capital of Sicily
We were lucky enough to visit Sicily earlier this year. It is such a beautiful island full of stunning places to visit. One day we spent a few hours walking the streets of Palermo, the capital city.
Mixed feelings!
I came away with very mixed feelings from this trip. There was some striking architecture and so many things to see and do. However, like many capital cities, it was busy, and in places run down and dirty.
I guess my problem with it was that I didn’t have any must-see places there. Unlike the rest of our trip where we visited places we had wanted to see for a long time.
Pondering Palermo – The highlights
We started the day by catching a clean and efficient train into the city. Although we had a hire car, we did not fancy attempting that journey! Our first stop was at the fountain of shame!
Next, we walked over to the cathedral where we saw the Porta Nuova (New Gate) and enjoyed the views from the cathedral roof. It was all very striking, and I am pleased that we saw a different side of this beautiful island.
