Northern Lights over West Sussex

Last month I, like many others was lucky enough to see the northern lights. I have wanted to see them for years and had always thought it would be on a visit to Iceland. Little did I expect to see them in my own country!

Colours in the sky

There was an event back in May where this natural phenomenon was visible in the UK. I was gutted to have missed it. This time, having read that there was a high chance of them returning, I had the camera at the ready.

About 7:30, I took a look to the sky and there it was, a pink hue. I got my camera out and suddenly the sky was full of colour!

Northern Lights in the UK

Parts of the the UK are luckily enough to see the northern lights on a regular basis. This is mainly Scotland and northern England. Where I live on the south coast it is very rare! When I heard that there was a high chance of seeing them I had to have a look.

The hardest part of capturing these images was to get it in focus. With is being so dark the camera was not going to cope with auto focus. Also with it being so dark, my eyes were struggling with focus! I think I got there in the end though!
