A guide to photographing seaside towns – Worthing Photography.

I am not normally one for taking photographs of landscapes, seascapes or urban scenes. However, over the year have found myself doing some photography in Worthing, West Sussex. I am originally from Worthing, and so find myself over there quite a lot. Now that I don’t live there I can see that there are plenty of photographic opportunities around the town. I have previously talked a little bit about photography in Worthing, but today I thought I would share a bit more.

Worthing Photography

Worthing is a seaside town situated on the south coast of England. It has the usual places that you would expect of a seaside resort – a pier with amusements, plenty of fish and chip shops and a classic pebbly beach.

Sometimes when I am walking along the prom, the light is “just right”. On these occasions, a beautiful seascape is just asking to be photographed! So today I thought I would put together a collection of images I have photographed in Worthing to give you a flavour of this little seaside town.

As you can see I have had a play around with some of these images to create some alternative looks. I like to do this with very familiar scenes as I feel it can make them more interesting.

How to capture alternative views

It is always hard to avoid the traditional sightseeing places when you visit any location and there is nothing wrong with capturing these tried and tested views. They are tourist spots for a reason. What I like to do it try and capture the familiar in an alternative way. In Worthing, a common sight to capture is the pier. This makes sense, piers are very dominating structures which can add interest to a potentially uninteresting sea view. What makes them interesting is what structured they have on them and what they are made from. You can get some really interesting shots playing with a low aperture to create blurry backgrounds, using sections of the pier to frame your shot or incorporating textures from rusting metal, wood or sea creatures!
